Exercise holds benefits for everyone, and a growing number of studies show that cancer patients in particular can gain valuable benefits from regular exercise. Research by The American Cancer Society and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute shows that regular exercise during and after treatment interspersed with periods of rest is highly beneficial. Too much rest can lead to loss of physical function, muscle weakness, and reduced range of motion in someone with a chronic illness. So today, many cancer care teams are urging their patients to be as physically active as possible during cancer treatment.
